PrayerPod Story...or Diary of a Well-Meaning Procrastinator About 3 years ago, either divine inspiration or an overactive imagination hit me while in church, waiting for services to begin and walking through in my mind the couple of intentions I wanted to pray for. A few people I work with had recently had some personal difficulties, and as I normally did I offered to keep them in my prayers. But in my Swiss Cheese mind, I knew I wasn't recalling all the intentions I'd meant to. Pangs of guilt soon turned to an idea - what if there were a small, hand-held PDA-like device that you could store and cycle through intentions? And so was born the idea of a Personal Prayer Intention Manager. Surely there are other absent-minded, well-intentioned people like me. And surely such a product already existed. But I found none. And off I started on building a prototype in software. I began using the prototype myself and was convinced that the idea had merit. And then I got busy. Surely, I would take that next step when some time freed up. But everytime I had some free time to look into developing the idea further, my excitement was dulled. Taking an idea like this to the next level would take considerable time and money investment, and I simply lacked ample amounts of either. So I'd procrastinate even more. In the meantime, I continued to use my little software prototype, adding the ability to print out a hardcopy of intentions. And it has helped me in keeping my commitments to pray for others. Well, three years later it exists in the same form...now an idea of a mobile application (still on the horizon), with this software prototype sitting collecting dust. So for Lent, 2007, I decided to table the larger plans for now, and see if anyone else could benefit from the software PrayerPod I created. Hence, this web site. I hope others find the PrayerPod as useful as I do. And soon you may be able to use the same applicaton on your cell-phone or PDA. Happy Praying! Dave Lent 2010 Update!!! The PrayerPod application is being ported to the IPhone under my brother's company, Safe-T-Technologies. Look for it to appear soon at the App Store under the moniker PrayerSteward or Promise2Pray. Take a look at the PrayerSteward web site by clicking the link on the left side of the page! |
